About This Event
On 21st March 2026, the Khudabadi Amil Panchayat of Bombay (KAP) came together at the picturesque Bombay Presidency Radio Club, Colaba, to celebrate Cheti Chand, the Sindhi New Year and the auspicious birth anniversary of Lord Jhulelal. Against the backdrop of a breathtaking sunset by the sea, the evening unfolded into a joyous celebration of faith, culture, community, and togetherness.
The event, which drew an overwhelming participation of over 300 community members, was meticulously organised by the KAP Events Team under the leadership of Ms. LaveenaShahani and Mr. Pradeep Gidwani. The celebrations were further strengthened by the invaluable support of Mr. Prakash Mirchandani, Hon. Secretary of the Bombay Presidency Radio Club, whose encouragement and cooperation helped make the evening a memorable one. They were ably supported by the enthusiastic volunteers of the Young Amil Circle (YAC), with Mr. Devesh Makhijani, Convenor of YAC, and Ms. Jharna Shahani playing an instrumental role in conceptualising, coordinating, and bringing the celebrations to life. The seamless collaboration between experienced hands and youthful energy ensured that every aspect of the evening reflected warmth and attention to detail.
Over the course of five memorable hours, members of all generations immersed themselves in the spirit of Cheti Chand. The soulful strains of traditional Sindhi bhajans filled the air, invoking devotion and gratitude while reminding everyone of the timeless values and teachings of Lord Jhulelal. As the sun slowly dipped into the Arabian Sea, the celebration transformed into a vibrant gathering of laughter, conversations, music, and shared memories.
One of the highlights of the evening was the lively bazaar atmosphere created through more than ten stalls, offering something for everyone. Guests indulged in an array of beloved Sindhi delicacies and festive treats, celebrating the flavours that have been passed down through generations. Alongside the food stalls, visitors explored an eclectic mix of offerings, including purses, accessories, and lifestyle products, adding a delightful element of shopping and discovery to the festivities.
Beyond the food and festivities, Cheti Chand served as a reminder of the strength and unity of the Amil community. Families reconnected, old friends reunited, and younger members experienced the richness of their heritage in a setting that was both meaningful and contemporary. The evening beautifully captured the essence of what community celebrations are truly about — faith, fellowship, fun, and the joy of belonging.
