“Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food.” – Hippocrates
This quote seems easy to understand but its implementation is quite the opposite. We, as humans, very well know which kind of food is beneficial and truly nutritious and which kind of food is not. But, in our daily routine, we consume a lot of food items in a way that could cause harm to our body and most of the time we aren't even aware of these adversities.
This year, YAC has been at the forefront in promoting good health. Keeping its steak after the Health Checkup Camp, YAC, along with KAP, hosted 'The Health Awareness Seminar by Ojas Life' at the Bombay Presidency Radio Club on 29th October 2023. The speaker of the session was Mr. Atul Shah, a degenerative disease survivor. He has a history of battling the terminal disease of Avascular Necrosis as well as overcoming it by way of healthy food and lifestyle habits.
Mr. Shah explained the entire human psychology about food versus what it is naturally meant to be. He depicted how the methods with which we choose our food and then cook and consume it, if not appropriate, could lead to an imbalance between the 5 elements of which our body is made: agni (fire), vayu(wind), dharti(earth), jal (water) and aakash (space). These imbalances, if not immediately, but eventually could lead to severe health issues at an early age.
To avoid the same, the speaker highlighted how changing the way we perceive our food and other lifestyle habits can have umpteen number of benefits. One of the ways that he emphasised on was adopting veganism. He added that even if an individual finds it difficult to become vegan, they must try to give greater weightage to fruits and raw vegetables in their daily diet. Mr. Shah spoke about the numerous benefits of drinking water at regular intervals and keeping one's body hydrated. He also urged the audience to not refrain from exposing their bodies to the sun, the reason being that a disconnect from it can hinder the smooth functioning of one's body.
The talk was followed by an interactive Q&A session wherein the audience, who were from across demographics, posed their concerns which were then satisfactorily solved by Mr. Shah.
YAC President Mr. Rohit Thadhani delivered the vote of thanks to Mr. Atul Shah and Ojas Life for their initiative towards #MissionHealthyIndia2025. KAP Vice President Mr. Chandrabhan Ramchandani presented a token of thanks and felicitated the speaker Mr. Atul Shah. Hon. Secretary of YAC Mr. Ramesh Mansukhani felicitated the Secretary of the Bombay Presidency Radio Club, Mr. Prakash Mirchandani.
Mr. Shrikant Shivdasani among other KAP members guided and supported YAC in this endeavour. Ms. Namrata Advani, the KAP Office Administrator took charge of the registration desk to assist individuals and guide those who were interested in becoming a member of KAP and YAC. This event's outreach was taken care of by YAC members' efforts, as they promoted the seminar online and generated awareness about it for almost a month. They also carried out the management of logistics on the day of the event. YAC Convenor - Mr. Devesh Makhijani, Vice President - Mr. Sidharth Makhijani, Hon. Secretary - Mr. Raahuul Advani, Jt. Secretary - Mr. Mihir Mirchandani, and YAC managing committee members - Mr. Jatin Mirchandani, Ms. Namita Makhijani and Ms. Leisha Mansukhani, were also present to ensure a seamless flow of the event.
